Rihai Manch to release report on those creating hurdles on a month of demonstration

19 June 2013
Lucknow | Rihai Manch plans to release a report on the efforts of the persons who are attempting to create hurdles in the way of seeking justice for Khalid Mujahid later today as it will complete a month of its indefinite demonstrations.
Rihai Manch (Forum for the Release of Innocent Muslims imprisoned in the name of Terrorism) is on indefinite dharna outside the UP Assembly outside the Uttar Pradesh Assembly demanding arrest of police officers involved in Khalid Mujahid's murder, issuing the RD Nimesh commission report, and the immediate release of innocent Muslim youth imprisoned in the name of terrorism.
Khalid had died under mysterious circumstances on his way back from Faizabad near Ram Sanehi Ghat on May 18. He was declared brought dead by the doctors at district hospital in Barabanki. Later, on the complain of his uncle Zahir Alam Falahi, a case was registered against 42 police officers including former DGP Vikram Singh, ADG Brijlal and others who were on duty during the time of Khalid's arrest.
Khalid along with Tariq Qasmi was arrested by Special Task Force (STF) on 20 December 2007 from Barabanki. Huge explosives were also shown as recovered from his possession. STF claimed that he was involved in the serial blasts which occurred in Gorakhpur, Faizabad and Lucknow. Later, Nimesh Commission was constituted headed by Justice R D Nimesh who in its report raised fingers over STF's claim about the place of arrest.
Rihai Manch is leading a sustained demonstration against the UP government demanding actions on its poll promise of releasing innocent youths languishing in jails in fabricated terror charges. On Thursday it will complete 30 days of the indefinite demonstration.
Several rights groups and individuals have also expressed their solidarity with the Manch demonstration and on different days made token participation.

20th June Invitation: Join Rihai Manch as we mark the one month of our indefinite dharna to get justice for Khalid Mujahid

Join Rihai Manch as we mark the one month of our indefinite dharna to get
justice for Khalid Mujahid
Date: 20th June 2013
Venue: Vidhan Sabha, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh

Friends
Tomorrow, 20th June 2013, we will have completed 30 days to the dharna
organized for justice for Maulana Khalid Mujahid. The State and its
functionaries, especially the police has unleashed an attack on the
most marginalized sections Uttar Pradesh.
The police and the Investigation Bureau(IB) realized that Khalid was
going to be released, and he could depose against them. They,
therefore, killed him and later claimed him to have expired due to
illness. Rihai Manch has foiled this attempt with the help of people’s
support.

This fight is not just for Khalid but for all those innocent muslim
youth who have been imprisoned in the name of terrorism. Samajwadi
party had also promised to release them all and is now running away
from the same. Today the SP has supressed the RD Nimesh Commission
report that had given evidence for the innocence of Tariq and Khalid.
It is clear today how Khalid was arrested on the directions of the IB
and how they made available to the UP Special Task Force(STF)
explosives to be later found with the two youth. After their innocence
was proved, it was also clear how high police and IB officials like
Vikram Singh, Brijlal, Amitabh Yahs,Manoj Kumar Jha, Chiranjeev Nath
Sinha, S. Anand are associated with the HuJi. HuJi was the very
organization with which Tariq and Khalid were falsely linked.
In this context, these police and IB officials should be immediately
arrested. We have several times raised this issue with Akhilesh Yadav
that by protecting these officials he is himself garnering terrorism
in the state. Therefore, we will continue our fight to protect our
democracy until they are imprisoned.

With this background, we request and urge you, in order to save our
democracy and to save the politics of justice, that you join us in our
indefinite dharna on the 30th day in front of the Vidhan Sabha. We
will continue to sit in to claim justice for Khalid Mujahid and for
all other innocent youth like him who have been imprisoned.

Whither Justice: Fabricated Cases And State

Rihai Manch, a forum for getting justice to the falsely implicated youth in the cases of acts of terror has currently (June 2013), held a protest Dharna (sit in) to demand the arrest of police and IB officials responsible for the death of Maulana Khalid Mujahid, to implement the R.D. Nimesh Commission report and to release the innocent Muslim youth implicated in acts of terror. This campaign is getting broader support from more human rights groups and affected community. This is the major effort by a civic society group to democratically protest against the insensitive and biased state machinery, to pressurize it to come to the path of justice.

The Samajvadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav Government in UP, had earlier claimed to be the major champion of the cause of Muslims, to the extent that the main leader of this party Mulayam Singh Yadav was derogatorily called Mulla Mulayam. But as he came to power last time also during his regime many a communal episodes, violence, took place under the very nose of the Government. Currently also Akhilesh Yadav‘s regime is marked by over 27 episodes of major riots. On the top of that this Government in its election promise had said that the innocents, implicated in the acts of terror will be released. On the contrary, the death of Maulana Khalid Mujahid in the police custody has raised sufficient doubts about the intentions of the Government. Even R.D. Nimesh Commission report was kept in the cold storage from last one year, and now when it has been released finally, the government is refraining from taking action, hiding behind the argument that it will be discussed in future Assembly session before action is taken on the report. As such Government has full prerogative to take action at Cabinet level. People fear that this commission report may also face the same fate as the other commission reports, which are generally put on the backburner or put in the cold storage.

Ashsish Khaitan, one of the journalists with dogged determination, sensitivity and honesty, has floated a portal, Gulail (Slingshot) to highlight the investigative reports related to the framing of innocents by authorities. Many an officers have falsely implicated innocents, despite knowing the truth, to enhance their own career prospects or to due to the biases which have gripped the large sections of the law enforcement agencies. These agencies regard that only youth from one religious community are responsible for the acts of terror. Khiatan also opines that putting forward the truth of such cases is also not of much use; as in such cases reports of honest investigations are overshadowed by the biased reporting and opinions in the print, T.V. and social media. He is pinning his hopes on judiciary and the people’s campaigns for getting justice. The ongoing dharna in UP is drawing the attention of the social groups and is being sustained for over two weeks by the social activists and the pained and anguished community, whose young ones’ are being incarcerated and have to suffer not only the future career prospects but have also to get the blame, which ostracize them from social life. In this direction various efforts have been undertaken in the past but after temporary response and restraint the investigation agencies lapse in to their usual prejudiced actions.
Not only can this be seen in the case of UP, but overall one sees the wide gulf between the promises and actual actions of the so called ‘secular parties’. While in Maharashtra the Congress coalition came to power with the promise of implementing Shrikrishna Commission report of 92-93 riots, after coming to power on this promise it put forward the usual excuses and the guilty police officers and political leadership continued to be in their positions of power despite sufficient proof of their involvement in instigating and participating in the riots., As for as justice to the victims and action against the guilty is concerned Samajvadi Party seems to be no different. The R.D. Nimesh Commission has given the full truth based on which it can proceed to punish the guilty police officers, but that’s what is being avoided. The credentials of so called secular parties are more are less similar, be it the Congress or be it the Samajvadi Party, they have very opportunistic attitude as far as the justice to minorities is concerned. While communal parties are out to do away with the rights of minorities and deny them justice through and through, these so called secular parties have dual character. They promise and are unable to deliver as their calculations are built around the vote bank politics.

This is due to multiple factors. One is that these supposedly secular parties are also being trapped by the considerations other than the values of secularism. So, controlling of communal violence, which is possible if there is adequate determination to do so, is not being done effectively. The second reason is the communalized state machinery, the investigating agencies, police and bureaucracy. How to investigate the cases, how to frame the innocents is an easy enough job, which the authorities do and their Khaki uniform empowers them to do it with ease. It is precisely due to this that the fate of inquiry commission reports has not been significant one. Starting from Madon Commission of inquiry into Bhiwandi riots, to Shrikrishna Commission and Liberhan Commission reports, the outcome, taking action based on the report, is close to zero as the implementing authorities, political leadership is opportunist and lacks the strength to stick to principles.

So where do we go from here. While the communal forces are out to proactively browbeat the religious minorities, the secular formations do not have the spine to ensure justice and equity. Its’ here, that the social activism which has prominently come up during last two decades in particular, needs to be strengthened. The activist groups have taken up these issues seriously and the initiatives by social activists is a major landmark in this direction. One wonders, why are the left parties, which should be principally secular to the core are shunning these efforts. Their joining these efforts to get equity and justice to minorities will put pressure on the parties like Congress and Samajvadi to try to become sincere in their efforts.

The intensification of efforts through judiciary and popular protests has to be intensified. The rot set in our democratic polity due to the infiltration of communalism through different mechanisms has been a very dangerous one to the values of our Constitution. It is time that we as a nation introspect and get over the biases and prejudiced behaviors towards weaker sections of our society. The path to social progress is paved through amity and justice. Professional attitude in investigation of acts of violence, communal amity and justice for all are the prerequisites of social progress, progress of society in the real sense.

Ram Puniyani was a professor in biomedical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, and took voluntary retirement in December 2004 to work full time for communal harmony in India. He is involved with human rights activities from last two decades. He is associated with various secular and democratic initiatives like All India Secular Forum, Center for Study of Society and Secularism and ANHAD.

Rihai Manch: IB responsible for Khalid’s murder like Ishrat Jhan fake encounter in Gujarat

12 June 2013
Lucknow /
Rihai Manch (Forum for the Release of Innocent Muslims imprisoned in the name of Terrorism) has compared the death of Khalid Mujahid with that of Ishrat Jahn fake encounter case in Gujarat, accusing the hands of Intelligence Bureau.
Rihai Manch is on indefinite dharna outside the Uttar Pradesh Assembly demanding arrest of police officers involved in Khalid Mujahid's murder, issuing the RD Nimesh commission report and action taken report, and the immediate release of innocent Muslim youth imprisoned in the name of terrorism. Chairman of the Rihai Manch, Mohamamd Shoaib said that CBI is enquiring the role of the IB officials and has made them accused; similarly the role of intelligence officials in the arrest and death of Khalid too must be investigated.
Magsaysay Award winner Sandeep Pandey said that he fears for the life of Tariq Qasmi, who was falsely made co-accused along with Khalid. He demanded that now that Khalid has been murdered, it is imperative that government immediately releases RD Nimesh Commission Report and takes action.

JNU students stage play ‘Batla House’ in support of Rihai Manch’ indefinite dharna

 8 June 2013, Lucknow/
As the indefinite dharna of the Rihai Manch outside Uttar Prdesh Assembly completes 18 days today, Revolutionary Cultural Front of Jawaharlal Nehru University today staged a play ‘Batla House’ at the venue of the demonstration in solidarity with the protest.
Rihai Manch (Forum for the Release of Innocent Muslims imprisoned in the name of Terrorism) is on indefinite dharna demanding arrest of police officers involved in Khalid Mujahid's murder, issuing the RD Nimesh commission report and the action taken report on it, and the immediate release of innocent Muslim youth imprisoned in the name of terrorism.

Riyaz of the RCF-JNU said that the staging of this play at the venue of a dharna demanding justice for Khalid Mujahid was important as both in this case and in the Batla House ‘fake’ encounter we see the violent and criminal mindset of the state.
In 2008 on 19th September, on 4th floor of L-18, Batla House in Delhi’s Jamia Nagar area, two youths of Azamgarh were killed in a shootout, which was later claimed to be an encounter by special cell of Delhi police. In this shootout, one of the officers of Delhi police Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma also lost his life. However, from the very first day Human and Civil Rights’ organistions and activists are demanding an independent judicial enquiry into the shootout. The post-mortem report of the deceased also pointed towards the encounter being a fake one.
Social activist Shabnam Hashmi was also today present in solidarity. Expressing her support for the cause, she said that terrorism has become the whip of Hindutva forces, by using which state implicates innocent Muslim youths and create fear amongst minorities. She reminded that whenever there is demand for probe into cases of such arbitrary arrests or encounter, respective state governments flinch as they are scared to accept this truth.
Criticizing the state government’s move of withdrawing cases in hush, without proper preparation that led to different courts putting aside such decisions, chairman of the Rihai Manch Advocate Mohamamd Shoaib said that such moves are only meant to mislead Muslims and are not meant for any concrete steps towards keeping their poll promises of withdrawing cases against innocent Muslims who are languishing in jails for years.
Rihai Manch has been able to complete their indefinite dharna for the 18 days now. Several social activists and different organisations from across the country and world have expressed their support for the Manch’ dharna demanding justice for Khalid Mujahid and release of innocent Muslim youths languishing in jails in fabricated cases of terror.

Khalid along with Tariq Qasmi was arrested by Special Task Force (STF) on 20 December 2007 from Barabanki. Huge explosives were also shown as recovered from his possession. Social activist Shabnam Hashmi supports Rihai Manch

Social activist Shabnam Hashmi on Saturday took part in the agitation organised by the Rihai Manch, an outfit formed to struggle for release of innocent Muslim youths allegedly implicated in false terror charges. Rihai Manch is holding indefinite demonstration for last 18 days demanding action against police officers responsible for arrest and death of terror accused Khalid Mujahid. It is also demanding state government to act on Nimesh Commission report which found discrepancies in arrest of Mujahid and his co-accused in the 2007 serial blasts case. Mujahid had died in police custody on May 18. After a street play by the members of Revolutionary Cultural Front, Jawaharlal Nehru University, on the allegedly fake Batla house encounter, Hashmi expressed her view. She said Mujahid is just one among many innocent Muslims who are arrested in the name of terrorism in India. "He was murdered because he could have been a witness against the UP policemen involved in falsely implicating innocent Muslims," she said.

British Indian Muslims express solidarity with Rihai Manch’s indefinite dharna

Council of Indian Muslims—UK (CIM) has expressed solidarity with Rihai Manch, a movement launched for the release of innocent detainees implicated in terror cases in India.
For the last 13 days Rihai Manch has been holding dharna (sit-in) in front of Vidhan Sabha, legislative assembly of Uttar Pradesh, against the custodial killing of Khalid Mujahid.
“We salute the brave and honest souls like Magsaysay Award winning social activist Dr Sandeep Pandey, former Director General of Police S R Darapuri and Advocate Randheer Suman, the shining stars of Indian secularism, who have led this campaign and have been exposing the ugly faces of a bunch of fascists bent upon destroying the spirit of peaceful co-existence and pluralism, an ingrained and deep rooted virtue of Indian society.” CIM’s Chairman Munaf Zeena said in a statement issued today.
“We support the demands of Rihai Manch and express solidarity with these selfless soldiers fighting to establish rule of law and justice in India.” Zeena added.
“We condemn the killing of Khalid Mujahid and unjustified detentions of Muslim youths. Unfortunately even after 65 years of independence Indian police is behaving like the soldiers of British colonialists and Muslims as rebels.” Zeena continued, “We urge the UP Government to restore community’s shaken confidence, improve its badly damaged image and accept the demands of Rihai Manch.”
Khalid Mujahid, arrested in 2007 for his alleged involvement in blasts inside a court, died in police custody on May 18, 2013 just a few days after govt moved to court to seek his release.
Questions were raised when Khalid Mujahid and Tariq Qasmi were shown arrested in 2007. Government appointed Justice RD Nimesh Kumar Commission refused to believe police version of arrest story. Copy of the leaked report is shown recommending punishing the guilty police officers. Government has so far refused to make the report public.
While there are no exact figures as how many Muslims are being detained by the police and investigative agencies, in a recent statement Mr Darapuri has presented an alarming picture. “Through investigative agencies innocent Muslim youths are being kept at a secret place and are subjected to inhuman treatment that only becomes known to the Human Rights Commission when the detainee is found dead,” he said.

Rihai Manch demands action taken on Nimesh Commission report

Lucknow The state cabinet meeting chaired by CM Akhilesh Yadav accepted the Nimesh Commission report on Tuesday. The Nimesh commission report is related to the arresting of terror suspect Khalid Mujahid and Tariq Qasmi in 2007. Justice R D Nimesh had submitted its report to the state government on 31 August 2012. Both Khalid and Tariq were accused in serial blasts which occurred in 2007.
There were demands from victim's family and other social organisations to make Nimesh Commission report public. The demand intensified after the death of Khalid Mujahid in police custody on May 18 when he was returning from court appearance at Faizabad to Lucknow.
“The state cabinet has accepted the Nimesh Commission report. It will help us in taking up the case of innocent persons. Now we will table it in the state assembly along with the action taken report,” Akhilesh Yadav stated.
Rihai Manch (Forum for the Release of Innocent Muslims imprisoned in the name of Terrorism) is on indefinite dharna for 14 days now outside the UP Assembly demanding arrest of police officers involved in Khalid Mujahid's murder, issuing the RD Nimesh commission report, and the immediate release of innocent Muslim youth imprisoned in the name of terrorism.
Chairman of the Rihai Manch, Advocate Mohammad Shoaib said that the way the cabinet has half heartedly accepted the Nimesh Commission Report only reveals how government is not serious about taking actions. He pointed out that the Manch had already made public the report in March, and what they now expect is that government takes actions. He reminded that the ruling Samjwadi Party had made poll promises of taking releasing innocent Muslim youths languishing in jails for years.
Muslim clerics have welcomed the step taken by the CM Akhilesh Yadav. “It is a good step. We have been demanding it since many years that Nimesh commission report should be made public. Now the first step towards it has been taken. We will appreciate if the Action Taken Report is also presented. We hope CM Akhilesh Yadav will do it soon,” Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahli, Imam of Aishbagh Eidgah stated.
Imam, Tile Wali Masjid, Maulana Fazlur Rehman Waizi Nadwi too welcomed the decision of the state government. “It shows that state government is sincere on its promise for releasing the innocent youths. Till date not a single commission report has been made public. Akhilesh Yadav has taken the first step. His intentions should not be doubted and Muslims should support the efforts of the state government,” he stated.
Md Farhat Miyan, the Sajjadanasheen of Dada Miyan Ki Mazar too welcomed the step by Akhilesh Yadav government. “It is good the Nimesh Commission report has been placed before the cabinet and it has been accepted. CM Akhilesh Yadav has taken bold step. I am hopeful that action taken report will also be submitted soon,” Farhat Miyan stated.
Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind General Secretary Maulana Mahmmood Madani has termed the move though late, but a good step in the right direction. “Now it is the right time to present report with its full perspective and early actions be taken against errant officials,’’ he added.
On the contrary, Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) termed it as another appeasement act by Akhilesh Yadav government. “It was with them since August last year. It has been done now under pressure from Khalid's family members. It is a clear case of Muslim appeasement policy by the state government,” Vijay Bahadur Pathak, the state spokesperson of BJP stated.

Flaying BJP and other communal elements which sharply condemned Akhilesh Kumar for accepting report, JUH general secretary Maulana Madani asked the Akhilesh Government not to bow down to such anti people forces and continue his march towards justice.
Khalid Mujahid along with Tariq Qasmi was arrested by Special Task Force (STF) on 20 December 2007 from Barabanki. Huge explosives were also shown as recovered from his possession. STF claimed that they were Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami operatives and were involved in the serial blasts which occurred in Gorakhpur, Faizabad and Lucknow.
However, under pressure from the families and civil society groups the then BSP government had constituted the RD Nimesh Commission to probe the allegations of falsely implicating them. After several extensions, the report was finally submitted in August 2012.
Although the government has not yet made the report public, on 18 March, 2013 Rihai Manch, had leaked the report, which had raised fingers over STF's claim about the place of arrest.
Khalid had died under mysterious circumstances on his way back from Faizabad near Ram Sanehi Ghat last Saturday.

Rihai Manch demands action taken report on Nimesh Commission

3 June 2013 /
Lucknow: As the Rihai Manch’ protest competed 13th day it has demanded action taken report on the RD Nimesh Commission report.
Rihai Manch (Forum for the Release of Innocent Muslims imprisoned in the name of Terrorism) is on indefinite dharna demanding arrest of police officers involved in Khalid Mujahid's murder, issuing the RD Nimesh commission report, and the immediate release of innocent Muslim youth imprisoned in the name of terrorism.
Chairman of the Rihai Manch Mohamamd Shoaib said that it had already released the Nimesh Commission report on 18 March, earlier this year and so mere report is not sufficient and they expect from the government to also tell the public what actions they have taken on the report.
National Coordinator of Association for protection of civil rights (APCR), Akhlaq Ahmed participated in the protest on the 13th day to express their solidarity.
Meanwhile Council of Indian Muslims—UK (CIM) has expressed solidarity with Rihai Manch. Earlier, Association of Indian Muslims of America (AIM) had also expressed their solidarity.

Suing for burning  Abu Asim Azmi's effigy will prove costly to the SP government - Rihai Manch
Rihai Manch's Maseehuddin Sanjari initiates relay fast on the 12th day of indefinite Dharna against SP government's tactics

Lucknow, June 2, 2013 / Rihai Manch's indefinite dharna demanding arrest of  police officers involved in Khalid Mujahid's murder, issuing the RD Nimesh commission report, and the immediate release of  innocent Muslim youth imprisoned in the  name of terrorism, completed its twelfth day in Lucknow today.
In its statement, Manch said that the government dares not file cases against the likes of Togadiya and Varun Gandhi but is hell-bent on acting against burning the effigy of Abu Azmi. They said it reflects their anti-Muslim outlook to governance.
Abu Amir, brother of Mohammad Habib from Azamgarh, who is imprisoned in Samabarti Jail in Ahmadabad, submitted a memorandum addressed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav through the indefinite dharna.
Starting a kramik upwaas opposing the government's claims of natural death of Maulana Khalid and the protection of the guilty officers, Rihai Manch Azamgarh incharge, Maseehuddin Sanjari, said the government wanted to mislead the masses and the CBI by not producing all the documents needed and used SP leaders and paid ulema to protect Khalid's killers. He said the government wanted to give the issue of release of imprisoned youth a communal color and announced that the indefinite dharna would now be in the form of a kramik fast.
Condemning the lawsuit by the government for burning the effigy of Abu Azmi in Azamgarh, Manch speakers said it was a representation of the government's fear of the movement for justice for Muslims and its policies would prove costly for it in the upcoming 2014 general elections.
Rihai Manch leader and Awami Council Secretary-General Asad Hayat said the government was against their appeal against the Varun Gandhi case and termed it a proof of collective work of the communal forces in polity and the SP government. He said the fact that Asthan, Pratapgarh's Muslim homes were looted and set on fire by rioters in the presence of Praveen Togadiya but the police did not register a case under Section 153 A, 295 A of the IPC.
Different, wrongful sections were applied by Inspector Namwar Singh and Sections 147, 148, 149 were removed from case no. 95/12. Also, the reports of innocents whose houses had been destroyed weren't lodged at all, they were labeled gangsters instead.
He added that communal government's rioters involved in Faizabad, Kosi Kalan and Ambedkar Nagar were roaming free and the government had no will to indict them.

Abu Amir from Azamgarh, whose brother Mohammad Habib is imprisoned in Samabarti Jail in Ahmadabad, presented a memorandum addressed to the CM and said he had met him during the 2012 assembly elections and he'd promised to release his brother Habib if he gained political power.
He asked Akhilesh Yadav to intervene and act in the Sabarmati Jail tunnel case where 7 Azamgarh boys are under severe scrutiny and ensure the innocents' release.
Manch speakers said on the thirteenth day of the dharna Akhlaq Ahmed, Abu Bakr of Human Rights from Delhi and Indian National League president Mohammad Sulaiman. Also showing solidarity tomorrow would be the kin of Shakeel, who was abducted by state authorities under the SP regime a year ago.

Sanjarpur Sangharsh Simiti from Azamgarh and All India Backward Society Party support the dharna today.
The dharna was addressed by Raghavendra Pratap Singh, incharge of Rihai Manch Allahabad, Advocate and Rihai Manch President Md. Shoeb, Mohammed Aafaaq from Socialist Front, Magsaysay Awardee Sandeep Pandey, former MP Ilyas Azmi, Smart party president Haji Mohammed Fahim Siddiqui, Shahzaade Mansour, Tariq Shafeeq, Ram Singh Yadav from National League, Abuzar from Muslim Morcha, Secretary General of Rihai Manch and former police officer S R Darapuri, Aftab Ahmed from Muslim Forum, Maseehuddin Khan, Mohammad Hussain Khan from All India Backward Society Party, Syed Moid Ahmad, Ishaaq, Laxman Prasad, Dr. Anwarul Haque Laari, Mohammad Abrarul Siddiqi, Md. Rihai Manch's protest continued on the eleventh day with its eleven-point demands from the government

Lucknow, June 1, 2013 / Indefinite dharna for arrest of Khalid Mujahid's killers, release of Nimesh Commission report and release of innocents imprisoned in the name terrorism completed its eleventh day today with Khalid's uncle Zaheer Alam Falahi and Tariq's relatives accusing Abu Asim Azmi and paid ulema of trying to protect Khalid's killers.
Tariq Qasmi's uncle, Hafiz Fayyaz said that he'd refused to accompany Abu Asim Azmi to meet Tariq in jail, that is when he contacted Tariq's father-in-law, who also refused. Abu Asim Azmi's men forcefully took away Hafiz Fayyaz's brother, Mumtaz at 1.30 in the night. He said that leaders like
Abu Asim Azmi were misleading the Muslim masses, and that if the government really wants to make amends, they should refrain from using leaders like Abu Asim Azmi as pawns and start a CBI enquiry into Khalid's murder and release the Nimesh report. Tariq's father-in-law and Khalid's cousin attended the dharna.

Addressing the dharna, President
of All India Muslim Majlis e Mushawarat and editor of The Milli Gazette, Dr. Zafar-ul-Islam Khan, said that the questions being raised about terrorism all over the country has left the central and the state governments speechless and brings shame to the world's largest democracy. He said that if the SP government really intended to release innocents imprisoned in the name of terrorism, why had it not acted on the 11 demands even after 11 days of the indefinite dharna. He added that the commission was a public inquiry, paid for by the public, hence entitling the masses to see its findings which not only protects the guilty police officers but infringes on the public's democratic rights.
Tasleem Rahmani, Welfare party's national vice-president said IB's national anti-Muslim agenda in a democracy and shielding the same IB officers was reflected in the government's treatment of Khalid's murder. He said it could be understood from the government's propping of paid ulema and leaders like Abu Asim to claim that Khalid's death was due to disease.
Talking about the CRPF camp attack that occured 5 years ago, where CRPF men drank and shot at each other and three men were falsely implicated in the attack, namely, Jangbahadur's son, Sher Khan, from Moradabad, Sharif's brother Shahin, from Rampur, Kunda, Pratapgarh's Kausar Faruqi's brother said that government's spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said in November that the case against Rampur would be taken back, but nothing has been done uptil now. They said they'd been demanding a CBI enquiry into the case but the government isn't ready to take up the matter.
Abu Amir, brother of Mohammad Habib from Azamgarh, who is imprisoned in Samabarti Jail in Ahmadabad, said that the government had been indecisive in its statements and dozens of Muslims, including 7 from Azamgarh had been accused of trying to make a tunnel from the jail using pens, plates and spoons. The length has been varying from 20 to 220 meters in various official statements but the state government which had promised every possible assistance to the falsely implicated youth has been mum on this serious incident of custodial death.
The dharna was conducted by Maseehuddin Sanjari, incharge of Rihai Manch Azamgarh, and was addressed by Raghavendra Pratap Singh, incharge of Rihai Manch Allahabad, Azamgarh Rihai Manch's, Advocate and Rihai Manch President Md. Shoeb, Tariq Shafiq, Sadiq Ali, Mohammed Aafaaq from Socialist Front, Abuzar, Abu Zaid, AIPWA's Tahira Hasan, Advocate Randhir Suman Singh, senior journalist Ajay Singh, Advocate Asad Hayat, IPF's Rajesh Sachan, Dinkar Kapoor, Bhagwan Swarup Katiyar from Jasam, Adiyog, Is'haaq, Kiran Singh from PWA, Smart party president Haji Mohammed Fahim Siddiqui, Shahzaade Mansour, Mohammad Javed from Allahabad, Naseem, Rajni Rawat, Dr. Lal Devendra Singh Chauhan, Mahfoozurrhman from Madihyahun, Mo. Junaid, Mohammad Ismail, Salim Raini, Jaunpuri Qari Zubair Ahmad, Maulana Qamar Sitapuri, Shahnawaz Alam and Rajiv Yadav.

After the so-called Ulema, now Abu Azam Azmi is being used to mislead the public - Rihai Manch
Rihai Manch was supported by Association of Indian Muslims of America on the tenth day of its dharna against injustice for Khalid Mujahid and its demand for arrest of guilty police officers and IB officials.
On its eleventh day tomorrow the dharna will be attended by Zaheer Alam Falahi, Maulana Khalid's uncle and Tariq-Khalid's family and relatives.
Lucknow, May 31, 2013 /
Continuing its demand for release of innocents imprisoned illegally and justice for Maulana Khalid, Rihai Manch's indefinite dharna completed its 10th day. Manch said the attempted cover-up using various fake ulema working against the spirit of Islam and Muslim SP leaders, who label Khalid's murder as mere death from natural causes shows that not only is the IB and police involved by the government is the murder and was trying to wash its hands off the matter by influencing the investigation
Mohd Aafaaq from Socialist Front burnt the effigy of Abu Asim Azmi and said his claims of Khalid's death from disease is a betrayal to the Muslim society which will not be forgiven.

The spokespersons for Rihai Manch said that even the Association of Indian Muslims of America has expressed support for the movement for justice for Maulana Khalid in a letter written to Rihai Manch.

The dharna will be attended by Zaheer Alam Falahi, Maulana Khalid's uncle and Tariq-Khalid's family and relatives on its eleventh day tomorrow Zafar-ul-Islam Khan, editor of the Milli Gazette chairman of the All India Muslim Majlis e Mushawarat will show his support tomorrow.

Addressing the protesters former MP Ilyas Azmi said Abu Asim Azmi's remarks were irresponsible and a part of condemnable dirty politics. Ilyas Azmi said that Azamgarh which has been defamed by IB as a terrorism hub, is a sensitive topic and any person passing comments/judgment should ponder over its implications and not play politics about it.
Azmi said that the lie told about Khalid's death was so grave that no local Muslim leader was ready so say it hence SP had to fly Abu Azmi from Mumbai to say it, two weeks after Khalid's death.
President of Rihai Manch and Khalid-Tariq's lawyer Mohammed Shoeb said that Abu Asim Azmi, in a bid to bail out the government went to meet Tariq in jail but failed to meet Khalid's family, the same thing SP's 'paid ulema' were doing a few days ago, and Khalid's uncles refusal to accept the compensation was a fitting gesture for that. He said that even the Justice RD Nimesh report absolves Khalid-Tariq of all indictments and Abu Azmi should refrain from stooping so low in the name of politics.
He said that the government that keeps innocents locked up 23 hours in a day in the name of high-security wants to reduce these spirited young men to listless souls.
The dharna was addressed by Magsaysay awardee Sandeep Pandey, National Integration Party's Moid Syed, Haji Fahim Siddiqi, Ehsanul Haq Malik, Zaid Faruqi, Ishaaq,
Lakshman Prasad, Asad Hyatt from Awami Council, Faizan Musanna, Shuab Ali, Ajay
Singh, Shahnawaz Alam and Rajiv Yadav.
